I had this problem of “run_portable_ubuntu” just doing nothing, when it had worked previously. I de-fragmented the disk drive, using “Ashampoo WinOptimizer”and compacted the registry using “Desktop Maestro”. If you enter the commands given in the “run_portable_ubuntu” batch file manually, it says “cannot find TrayRun.exe”. This problem may go away after a re-boot. If it doesn't, you'll have to right click on your drive and schedule a disk check. Then do a de-frag and a registry repair, if that doesn't work.

I wanted to install Portable Ubuntu on my Win XP, but when I ran the file run_portable_ubuntu.bat, the green arrow appeared on the system tray only for an instant and it disappeared very quickly. In the end, no task bar (panel) launched. I am sure I put my antispyware and antivirus off before the instalation.

Does it require any other program to run under Win XP?

I’ll be trying this tonight. At the moment I’ve been using Ubuntu and XP with Wubi, but this might replace that.
